Laws of an Online Business
Having an online business is not the same as having a local company in town. There are many things to consider with the law when you have an online business. These things include sales, service, a website, and other things.
An online business is where many people are turning as a way to stay alive in the economy today. This is the best thing you can do if you want to keep the income rolling in and expand your market and audience larger than just your local economy.
If you are building a business online where you sell products then you won’t need a business license as you would if you opened a store down the street. A business license is not required for an online business and when you file your taxes you can use your tax identification number as your social security number. This is a big benefit and you don’t need to worry about approval from any local government organizations. You have total control over your business. If you choose to hire employees to work for you then you can pay them cash and let them file their own taxes as they wish or you can pay them as employees. This may require a license if you get big enough to where you can no longer run it out of your home.
If you are planning on selling services with your business to local people and others across the web then you will have to have a business license if people are coming into your business. If you trim lighted palm trees then you will not only need to have a business license but you will also need to have insurance in case of a fall or an injury. Most commercial companies would not want to hire someone to trim their trees without a license out of fear they may be liable. If you are selling artificial Christmas trees on the local street then you still need to have proof of a license. If you do not have a license to sell artificial Christmas trees locally then this could cause you to have to shut down and cost you money in fines.
There are many legal issues with having a business online. Most laws are federal. Local governments have not the technology nor the knowledge to shut down a business online without a license and meeting other requirements. The most important thing to remember when you have an online business is that you should never use photos that you did not take yourself, do not use profanity or anything that is insulting or vulgar, and be sure that all of your written content is unique and not copied.
An online business versus a brick and mortar have very big differences when it comes to the law. You don’t necessarily need a business license with an online company and it is almost impossible to be regulated. Be sure you don’t steal content or photos online and you are respectful.
